There are only a few days remaining for bartenders to enter the 2009 Appleton Estate rum Victorian Tiki Cocktail Competition, with entries closing on Monday (Oct 19).

Now in its third year, the competition attracts hundreds of entries from across the state.

This year, for the first time, Tasmanian finals were held, with the winner securing a place in the Victorian final, to be held on October 27 at Blue Diamond in Melbourne.

The Tasmanian final, held at Toledo cocktail bar in Hobart on Monday night (Oct 12), saw bartender Mark Burke take out first prize, securing his place in the Victorian final, as well as a bottle of Appleton Estate Master Blender’s Legacy signed by master blender, Joy Spence.

Burke will be joined by the top five bartenders selected from the Victorian entries, where they will compete for a bottle of the extremely rare Appleton Estate 30 Year Old Jamaica Rum, a selection of the Edwin Charley Proprietor’s Collection and a signed bottle (Master Blender Joy Spence) of Appleton Estate Master Blender’s Legacy.

The final will also incorporate the largest tasting of Appleton Estate Jamaica Rums ever in Australia.
