Lion Nathan Europe has this week released three products in PET bottles into markets looking for recyclable options at the ProWein 2009 international wine exhibition in Germany.

The ‘unbreakable’ and recyclable packaging will be used for three products released under the Mitchelton brand – a Chardonnay Marsanne Viognier, a Rose and Shiraz Mourvedre Viognier.

The new 750ml bottle features dual layer PET plastic with oxygen scavenger and has a plastic screwcap and neck sleeve.

According to Lorraine Carrigan, PR manager representing Lion Nathan Europe, the opportunity to release the PET bottles arose following a Swedish monopoly tender process.

“Lion Nathan won the tender working in conjunction with the Swedish importer and Bibendum – Lion Nathan’s UK-based export department,” Corrigan said.

“We are providing different packaging solutions in markets that are environmentally aware.”

The three Mitchelton PET products will also be released in Denmark later this month.

Lion Nathan Europe has also announced it will release a Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc in a 1.5 litre cask. The cask will carry the new Two Trades brand, which is a sub-brand within the Wither Hills portfolio.

Two Trades is also launching a Pinot Gris in a 750ml glass bottle.
