The Liquor Stores Association New South Wales will be hosting its key annual event, The Panel, later this month and will focus on the state’s impending Container Deposit Scheme (CDS).
This important networking event will feature three of the key stakeholders in the scheme, namely:
- THE REGULATOR: Alex Young, Director Community & Behaviour Change, NSW Environment Protection Authority (EPA)
- THE CDS COORDINATOR: Peter Bruce, CEO, Exchange for Change
- THE NETWORK OPERATOR: Ken Donley, CEO, Tomra-Cleanaway.
The discussion will focus on the structure and operation of the NSW CDS, which officially begins on 1 December 2017. The Panel is an opportunity to hear first-hand about the scheme’s costs, obligations, impacts and potential opportunities for liquor retailers, suppliers, the broader industry and consumers.
The stakeholders will also officially launch communications materials at the event, one for retailers and one for consumers.
Michael Waters, the Executive Director LSA NSW & ACT, told TheShout that this was an important event for independent retailers and a crucial opportunity to learn everything they need to know about the CDS.
“I sincerely thank the NSW EPA, Exchange for Change and Tomra-Cleanaway for making themselves available for this very important retail liquor industry briefing, and particularly for their support and commitment to work with the LSA to prepare some key education tools and materials that will be launched on the day, designed to assist liquor retailers, their staff and their customers in the lead up to the commencement of the CDS,” Waters said.
“If you are an independent liquor retailer and still have unanswered questions about the CDS and how it will impact your business, this is your one and only opportunity to hear first-hand from the Regulator, the Scheme Coordinator and the Network Operator, and to have your questions answered.”
The Panel takes places on Wednesday, 27 September 2017 from 9.30am to 11am at the Figtree Conference Centre, 5 Figtree Drive, Sydney Olympic Park. It is free for LSA members and you should register through the LSA NSW website.
