Matilda Bay Brewing Company has taken top honours in the Sydney Royal Beer Competition, which awarded a total of 56 medals including 6 Gold, to a collection of 73 brands from around Australia.

Matilda Bay won the prize for Champion Bottled Beer for its Alpha Pale Ale and Champion Draught Beer for its Redback Original Wheat Beer.

Judges included brewers, retailers and beer writers sourced from around the country, plus several New Zealand-based experts.

Judging chairman, brewer and judge for more than 20 years, Brad Rogers, told TheShout the quality of entries in this year’s Sydney Royal Beer Show highlighted the increasing diversity of beer styles that brewers are producing.

“Results from this year’s competition reflect the depth in the quality of Australian craft brewing. It was great to see the standard of beer exhibited this year, with outstanding beers across the board.

“The Australian beer industry is continually evolving and this year’s competition was no exception, highlighting the increasing importance of craft beers.

“It was extremely pleasing to see two champion awards and multiple gold medals presented this year, showing that Australian beer makers have once again raised the bar.”

Exclusive to brands of Australian origin, the competition was established in 2007 and is part of the Summer Fine Food Show
