Matilda Bay’s Redback Original Wheat beer has been named best Australian beer at The Australian Beer Awards, held in Sydney last weekend (October 25 and 26).

The fourth annual beer competition saw more than 60 beers entered in the event at The Australian Hotel in the historic Rocks district.

A total of nine trophies were awarded with Matilda Bay picking up a hat trick as the Redback Original Wheat won best Australian beer and best Australian wheat beer, while the Alpha Pale Ale took out best Australian ale.

“We’re all absolutely stoked with the result,” said Matilda Bay’s Matt Salter. “Redback is one of Australia’s oldest craft beers and a beer that’s pretty special to us all here at Matilda Bay”.

Also acknowledged at the festival was Fusion Brewing’s Bluebottle beer for best Australian lager, while Brewers Pilsner took out best Australian pilsner.

Black and Tan was awarded best Australian dark beer and Redoak Special Strong Bitter won best Australian amber.

Nail Stout took out best Australian stout/ porter, while Razorback Red won best Australian speciality.
