PakTech has announced the launch of its local manufacturing in Australia, as well as a collaboration with Endeavour Group to increase the reuse and recycling of its products.

The announcement follows PakTech’s multipack beverage can handles being assessed as recyclable through the Australian Packaging Covenant Organisation (APCO) ARL program.

PakTech products are made with high-density polyethylene (HDPE), also known as number two plastic, the same recyclable material used in products such as milk bottles, detergent bottles, and toys. Through Paktech’s recycling partnerships, the products will be recovered, cleaned, processed and repurposed into new products. Of the HDPE plastic used by PakTech, 100 per cent comes from recycled material, helping to close the circular economy loop and providing an avenue for its customers to respond to growing environmental concerns of consumers.

With a contract manufacturing facility located in Sydney and a proprietary partnership with Visy, PakTech and its partners have the capacity to manufacture up to 75 million recycled multipack beverage can handles per year within Australia. Locally, PakTech’s customers include Asahi, Billson’s, Hawkers Beer, and other craft beer, seltzer, and wine manufacturers.

Brandon Rogers, CEO at PakTech, commented on the milestone for the company.

“Today is an incredibly important day for PakTech and environmentally aware consumers. We’re now able to fulfil our vision of made in Australia, recycled in Australia, and repurposed again into new products in Australia. We’re also absolutely thrilled to be partnering with a champion of sustainability such as the Endeavour Group. They, like us, know the importance of sustainability and are willing to take action; not tomorrow, but today.

“Conscious consumerism is flourishing, and pressure from consumers around the world is forcing brands and retailers to rethink their approach to sustainable packaging. Sustainability and the circular economy are no longer competitive differentiators, they’re an expectation. We’re thrilled to join forces with an industry-leading brand in the Endeavour Group, and to formally commence our on-the-ground manufacturing here in Australia,” he said.

Through their collaboration, PakTech and Endeavour Group will work to expand Endeavour Group’s closed loop recycling scheme, which seeks to increase the recovery, recycling and re-use of PakTech clips through selected Dan Murphy’s stores.

Sarah McElholum, Circular Economy Sustainability Manager at Endeavour Group, is enthusiastic about the collaboration.

“Endeavour is proud to be partnering with PakTech to support the continued recycling and re-use of PakTech products. PakTech products play a great role in the re-use of plastic from products such as milk bottles and cream jars. We are also continuously working to improve the recyclability and re-use of our beverage packaging for our customers. Our partnership with PakTech, along with our cork collection and wine bottle divider recycling schemes within stores such as Dan Murphy’s give our customers another chance to help avoid landfill and give packaging another life.”
