The Bundaberg Master Distillers' Collection Black Barrel – Distilled 2005 will be released at the Spirit of Bundaberg Festival next week.

Aged 10 years in American white oak, the new rum was finished in small, heavy charred barrels to create an "enticingly sweet rum".

Bundaberg's master distillers collective regularly checks the liquor during its ageing to its quality and the result with this release is a "a premium, full character old aged dark rum featuring notes of deep caramel and sweet raisins."

Senior brand manager for Bundaberg Rum, Duncan Littler, said: "The Collective is dedicated to creating premium rums that embrace and celebrate the rich and diverse history of rum. MDC Black Barrel – Distilled 2005 has been barrel matured for longer creating a delectable rum, even smoother than its predecessors in the range.

"Over the last few years, our Bundaberg Black range has received some of the highest praise and numerous accolades from the rum community; including most recently winning awards at the at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition 2015 and International Wine & Spirit competition 2015 for Black Barrel – Distilled 2004. I’m confident that the MDC Black Barrel – Distilled 2005 not only reflects the rich heritage of the range, but will redefine it."

Available in 700ml bottles, each MDC Black Barrel – Distilled 2005 (40 per cent ABV) carries a unique number and is available for a recommended retail price of $139.99.
