The Victoria Room is launching ‘The First Word’, a series of cocktail masterclasses to be held on the first Sunday of each month.

The masterclasses at the Darlinghurst bar aim to give the hospitality industry a chance to network and expand their knowledge of fine spirits, liqueurs and cocktails.

The first event will be held on Sunday, March 1 at 6pm, and will feature Australian brand ambassador for chartreuse, Nathan ‘Stretch’ Bradbery.

The Victoria Room’s bar consultant, Jason Crawley, said the name of the series, ‘The First Word’, is a play on the popular ‘Last Word’ cocktail made with chartreuse, "[making] it only fitting to invite Stretch to be our first special guest teacher”.

The night will provide a look at the history of one of the world’s oldest liqueurs, whilst the bar team at The Victoria Room concoct seven chartreuse cocktails, at $16.05 each, as a nod to the year in which the liqueur was originally created.

Bradbery himself hopes to add a healthy dose of competition to the evening by challenging the current Victoria Room bar team to a cocktail battle. "Three lucky attendees will be given the task of judging our chartreuse cocktails and declaring a winner," he said.

Entry to ‘The First World’ is free for industry, and the first 50 attendees can enjoy a complimentary Treuse n Juice on arrival.

The Victoria Room is located at level 1, 235 Victoria Street, Darlinghurst.
