For the first time in seven years Museum and Rare, from Fine Wine Partners, is releasing a Petaluma Coonawarra Botrytis.

The 2010 Petaluma Essence is the first release from this Coonawarra vineyard since 2003 and is one of the only Semillon Sauvignon Blanc Botrytis wines from the region.

A prolonged drought in the 2000s was not conductive to botrytis cinerea but after seven years of waiting, 2010 became the exception.

The botrytised bunches of Sauvignon Blanc (55 per cent) and Semillon (45 per cent) were hand picked to ensure that only fully infected bunches were picked.

The new wine is available now with a spokesperson for Fine Wine Partners telling TheShout: "Museum and Rare is aimed at about 90 per cent on-premise and about 10 per cent premium independent retail."
