Despite industry speculation to the contrary, there are no plans whatsoever to brew Asahi in Australia, according to Asahi Premium Beverages general manager Andrew Amarant.

When contacted by TheShout, Amarant dismissed suggestions the Japanese brewer was investigating the possibility of producing Asahi locally at the Laverton, Victoria brewery operated by its subsidiary, Independent Distillers.

"We see the fact that it's still fully imported as key to the proposition and we do not have any plans at all for it to be brewed locally," Amarant said.

"I can emphatically say that that is not true."
