As venues around the country warm up in preparation for the pivotal second match of the 2012 State of Origin series, Garlo’s is supporting NSW pubs with a special limited edition hot blue pie.
The NSW Blues are fighting to stay in the series and prevent a 7th straight victory for Queensland, and Sydney-based Garlo’s Pies has baked a limited edition blue reinvention of the shepherd’s pie, which will be on sale until July 4.
All proceeds from the pies will go to Men of League – a charity that supports ex-players and coaches that have fallen on hard times.
Former league player and managing director of Garlo’s Pies, Sean Garlick, said he hopes raising money for Men of League will lead to the charity assisting people that were once involved in the game.
"After my playing career I had the support of my family and started the Garlo’s Pies brand," he said. "Unfortunately, some players aren’t able to go back to work because of injury or they had trouble entering the workforce.
"The Men of League charity was created to assist those people."
Garlo’s products can come with a pie warmer, holding from 24 to 300 pies, which on loan while pies are being supplied to the venue.
The company’s main bakery in St Peters bakes the pies and distributes them to pubs and clubs around Greater Sydney and Wollongong, with plans to expand into selected areas around NSW.
