Following the announcement that Papa Salt would release its first RTD ahead of the summer trading period, Papa Salt Paloma made its debut at SXSW Sydney this week.

Since the launch of the Australian coastal gin in May 2023, co-founded by Margot Robbie and friends Josey McNamara, Tom Ackerley, Charlie Maas and Regan Riskas Maas, Papa Salt has quickly established itself in the spirits industry and the new canned cocktail is a refreshing addition to the portfolio.

Packaged in a slim 250ml can at five per cent ABV, Papa Salt Paloma will be sold at all SXSW Sydney bars for the rest of the week following the opening of the festival on Monday, scheduled to hit bottle shop selves across the country from early November.

With just 99 calories and one standard drink per can, Papa Salt Paloma combines the award-winning Papa Salt Gin with Capi Grapefruit Soda, crafted using natural and locally sourced ingredients to ensure vibrant grapefruit flavours with a touch of rosemary.

Maas, CEO of Papa Salt, says: “When we first launched Papa Salt, Australian bartenders kept serving our gin mixed with Capi Grapefruit Soda. It’s a beautifully simple drink, and one that is all-Australian. When we started to consider a canned product it was the obvious choice.”

Speaking to The Shout ahead of the launch, Maas said the focus of the new RTD was to create a high-quality product that truly represented the Papa Salt brand while catering to demands for convenience and portability.

“As a brand you have to adapt, and one way to do that is to create a package that’s a bit easier to bring around and share than a standard big bottle,” he explained.

“Our hesitation round an RTD was about quality: how do we ensure the consumer knows this is a great product? In the end, we decided partnering with a renowned mixer brand was the way to do that. Capi make great products, and one of our favourites is their Grapefruit Soda, so we arrived at a Paloma from a quality angle. What’s the best thing we can put in this can? A Papa Salt Paloma with Capi Grapefruit Soda.”

In addition to the Papa Salt Paloma launch, Papa Salt has also announced the introduction of new packaging formats for the bottled gin, launching its first foray into minis with a 50ml bottle and a new 1L bottle.
