Former Dancing with the Stars judge Paul Mercurio has joined up with Redback wheat beer as a reviewer in the Redback Gourmet Pub Awards.

Run in Sydney and Perth, the competition sees gourmet pubs in each city battle it out to win the $10,000 worth of radio advertising.

Over the next six weeks, the pubs will be visited and reviewed by Mercurio, a long-time food, beer and wine connoisseur, and host of food and wine TV show, Food Trail.

“I’m really happy to be part of the quest to find good honest Australian food, which is what the Redback Gourmet Pub Awards represents,” he said.

“It’s great to be out and about sampling some of the country’s best food and checking out some of the great pubs that have already been nominated.”

Over the next six weeks, the public can vote for their favourite pub, with the top four advancing to the finals, which will then be voted on by a panel of judges.

Nominations will be accepted until November 23, with all voters going into the draw to win a dinner for two valued at $100.

Mercurio has already reviewed a number of nominations, including The Brisbane Hotel in Highgate, WA, and The Oaks Hotel in Neutral Bay, NSW.
