Two Melbourne men were arrested by police over the weekend after they staged an armed robbery at a northern suburbs hotel and made a getaway — in their own car.

The pair stormed into the Sylvania Hotel in Campbellfield on Saturday (August 23) at about 9:00am wearing balaclavas and armed with a sawn-off shotgun, News Ltd reported.

They took a sum of cash and fled the scene in a car that was registered at the address where the men sought sanctuary after the heist.

Tipped off by witnesses, Victoria Police later visited the address and arrested two men. Balaclavas allegedly used in the robbery were found in the front seat of their car.

The men are being questioned by police.
