NSW and Victorian TAB punters spent nearly $1.1 million on Australia’s biggest new bet type the six BIG6 pools on Saturday (Jan 31) — its first day of operation.

The cross-state NSW BIG6 thoroughbred pool held $447,000, while the Victorian thoroughbred BIG6 held $422,000. The Victorian harness BIG6 on the Ballarat Pacing Cup meeting had a pool of $110,000.

The new betting platform is available every week on all codes of racing, with Tabcorp the only Australian wagering operator offering the BIG6. To win punters need to pick the winners of six races nominated by the TAB.

The biggest BIG6 dividend was recorded on the Victorian TAB with the BIG6 Flemington thoroughbred paying $185,301.

The BIG6 continues this weekend, with a reduced commission rate of 6 per cent.

The races to be covered in this week’s BIG6s will be released on Thursday morning.
