The Night Time Industries Association (NTIA) is hosting a webinar tomorrow on how you need to manage your superannuation obligations to performers and entertainers.

If your venue hosts live performances you will have superannuation obligations that you need to understand in order to stay compliant.

The NTIA said: “Under the Superannuation Guarantee Administration) Act 1992, if someone is paid mainly for their performance or labour (including music), for the purposes of superannuation – they are considered employees.

“This means superannuation must be paid and contributed to the employee’s fund directly by the employer (not by the contractor), even if they have an ABN or are engaged as a contractor or sole trader.

“Getting this right is crucial to avoid being in breach of the Superannuation Guarantee (Administration) Act 1992.”

The NTIA’s industry briefing will hear from law firm Coleman Greig’s Shannon McNee, Studio Legal’s Sebastian Marcu and Surreal CEO and Co-founder Jeremiah Siemianow.

The team will run through a number of topics including when you are legally required to pay super to performers and contractors, how to reduce risk and meet your obligations and how you can get set up quickly to protect your business.

“Whether you book solo artists, bands, performers, or late-night DJs – this session will help you understand the basics and give advice on what to do next.

*As always, NTIA members can reach out to our team for more info on industry compliance and legal obligations. This webinar is for general information only, please seek professional advice for your specific circumstances.”

The webinar takes place via Zoom from 12pm to 2pm AEST, click here to register now.
