The wine on everyone’s lips this weekend will be riesling, when fans of this noble variety gather in Sydney for the Summer of Riesling Laneway Tasting tomorrow (Feb 12).

Hosted by wine writer, Mike Bennie, and Cellarhand Wines’ Jason Hoy, the free tasting will take place in the laneway behind Best Cellars on East Sydney’s Crown Street, creating a unique opportunity to sample over 50 expressions of riesling in an atmosphere that is more party-like than sedate wine tasting.

“The Summer of Riesling laneway party bookends the month-long celebration and infatuation with the universe's most electric white grape variety, riesling," Bennie told TheShout.

"We’ve created an informal, ghetto-styled wine tasting which throws out the window the conventions of normal wine events to show fans and aspiring drinkers the good times riesling brings.

“With a back lane, a warehouse, the seamy inner-city enclave of East Sydney, a busted basket-ball hoop, some DJs and over 50 rieslings being poured, this is the biggest riesling ho-down to ever come to a back alley.”

The Summer of Riesling Laneway Tasting will run from 6-9pm tomorrow night.
