The Royal Agricultural Society of NSW (RAS) is proud to promote the evolution of its Sydney Royal Beer & Cider Show, featuring an expanded offering for 2013.
The RAS has operated the Sydney Royal Beer Competition as part of the Summer Fine Food Show since 2007, but this year the event will stand alone for the first time.
This year also sees the introduction of cider classes, reflecting industry and market trends that have seen its popularity grow exponentially over recent years.
Respected industry expert Neal Cameron (pictured) will assume the role of chief judge for the competition, bringing his expertise as head brewer at The Australian Brewery, tasting panellist for Beer & Brewer magazine, and treasurer of Cider Australia.
“Sydney Royal has unquestionably set a high standard in both judging and benchmarking over the years,” says Cameron.
“It is extremely exciting to be involved, and not a little intimidating to be asked to carry on this tradition.
“Australia is going through an unprecedented cider boom currently, with over 100 producers now creating products for the domestic market. It will be fantastic to have the opportunity to support these producers with the inclusion of cider into the awards for the first time.”
The festival will hold classes, focusing on Golden Lagers, Dark Lagers, Pale and Golden Ales, Amber and Dark Ales, Stouts and Porters, Wheat Beers, Strong Beers, Reduced Alcohol Beer, Cider, Perry and Speciality Beer.
Competition award winners will be celebrated at a function held at Sydney Showground on Friday 20 September, 2013, with tickets on sale now.
