Venues around the country with a cracking wine list have until next Friday (March 25) to enter Australia’s Wine List of the Year Awards.
Sponsored by Fine Wine Partners and Gourmet Traveller WINE magazine, the awards search Australia’s restaurants, hotels, brasseries, wine bars, clubs and gastro pubs for outstanding wine lists across a number of categories, including Best Pub Restaurant, Best International Hotel Restaurant and Best Country Restaurant.
This year will also see the introduction of four new award categories – Best Wine-by-the-Glass list, Best Aperitif list, Best Digestif list and Best Beer list.
Over 350 venues entered the awards in 2010. Fine Wine Partners chairman and Wine Communicators of Australia president, Rob Hirst, said the awards continued to encourage consumers to visit venues, eager to sample the outstanding wine lists.
“We have seen enormous growth in style and sophistication in the hospitality industry over the past couple of decades. Our ambition with the awards over 16 years remains constant – to reward the work, time and skill invested in creating great lists which complement the style of the venue, large or small,” said Hirst.
“By continuing to raise consumer awareness of restaurants that are offering terrific wine lists, Fine Wine Partners is endeavouring to support both the sommelier’s efforts and the business as a whole.”
The winners will be announced at the beginning of August, with the results published in the August/September 2011 edition of Gourmet Traveller WINE.
