The 2016 Diageo World Class cocktail competition has delivered some shocks early on as Australia and the United States failed to make the Top 12.

The finals are currently taking place in Miami and Charlie Ainsbury, from Sydney’s This Must Be The Place, was expected to be one of this year's top contenders.

However as the Top 12 was announced this morning, Ainsbury’s named was unfortunately missing.

The Top 12 countries who will go on to fight it out for the prestigious title are Belgium, Canada, Czech Republic, Denmark, France, Great Britain, Holland, Japan, Mexico, Spain, Sweden and Taiwan.

The remaining competitors will now face off in the final round ‘American Classics’ on Wednesday (Miami-time) before the final six are announced. Thursday evening will then see a Pop-Up Challenge take place, before the final award ceremony takes place and the winner is announced.

You can see Ainsbury’s round one cocktail in the video below – please note he starts at the two minute mark.
