Two of the country’s leading pub groups, Solotel and Australian Venue Co (AVC) have launched flood fundraising appeals, which will raise money for the Red Cross Flood Appeal.

From Monday 14 March through to Sunday 10 April, Solotel is donating $1 from the sale of every pint of VB, Carlton Draught, Great Northern and many other beers to the Red Cross Flood Appeal. Throughout the four weeks, all 25 of CUB’s draught beers and ciders available across Solotel Group’s 19 pubs and bars are part of the fundraising initiative.

Elliot Solomon, CEO, Solotel Group says: “The powerful images of devastation and pain caused by the recent NSW and Queensland floods really impacted myself and the team, like many across the country. An appreciation for community is at the core of how we run our neighbourhood venues.

“So, to see scores of communities hurting deeply – well, we had to do something. We can’t all be on the ground to help but something as simple as buying a beer means that we can all still feel like we’re helping in some way.”

Participating pubs and bars include:

  • Golden Sheaf, Double Bay
  • Clock Hotel, Surry Hills
  • Albion Hotel, Parramatta
  • Bank Hotel, Newtown
  • Opera Bar, Sydney
  • Barangaroo House
  • The Marly, Newtown
  • Paddo Inn, Paddington
  • Public House Petersham
  • Courthouse Hotel, Newtown
  • Darlo Bar, Darlinghurst

AVC is launching a similar initiative with $1 from every schooner and $2 from every pint of selected ales at each of its venues around the country. With more than 180 venues, the group is hoping it will be able to raise thousands of dollars through it Beers for Mates campaign.

In Victoria, New South Wales, South Australia and Western Australia, donations will come from the sales of Furphy beer, while in Queensland and Northern Territory the fundraising will be through sales of XXXX Gold purchases.

“Australian Venue Co is proud to be able to do what it can to help those in need,” said Paul Waterson, AVC’s CEO.

“We want to do our part to support those communities in need during this challenging time.  We know our customers feel the same way, so this initiative gives them the opportunity raise vital funds while enjoying a beer at their local.”

The Beers for Mates fundraising will be across all Australian Venue Co pubs and bars nationwide until 31 March.
