A vibrant carnival based on the 130 year-old New Orleans festival is set to hit Australian shores today (Feb 2), with Southern Comfort hosting the inaugural ‘SoCo Carnivale’.

An eclectic mix of music and New Orleans-style dancing, the SoCo Carnivale will kick off at the St Kilda Festival in Melbourne with events running throughout the week.

The carnival will then make its way up the coast to the Entertainment Quarter at Fox Studios in Sydney where the party will continue from Feb 13 to 21.

Senior brand manager for Southern Comfort, Liz Heslop said it was time Australia got to experience Carnivale.

“Carnivale is one of most unique and unforgettable parties in the world, that the people of New Orleans have been celebrating for over 130 years,” she said.

The carnival will feature popular DJs Shapeshifter, Norman Jay and Lyrics Born along with street performer, circus entertainment and burlesque dancers.

“With SoCo Carnivale we wanted to re-create the New Orleans celebration authentically, so everything from the artists we’ve chosen, [to] the themeing of the venue and the specially created drinks has a Carnivale twist," Heslop said.
