The Starward distilling team, which contains multiple ex-Brewers, have paid homage to the craft of brewing with the latest Project release, Starward Stout Cask.

The ballot is now open for the limited release whisky, which celebrates the magic ingredient behind the immense flavours in both whisky and imperial stout beer – the barrels.

The team selected whisky from Starward’s signature red wine and small format Apera barrels and then finished those for a further 18 months in barrels from Brick Lane’s coveted ‘Trilogy of Fear’ imperial stout series.

Ahead of the launch of this latest Project release, Starward Production Director, Sam Slaney said: “We love the change of seasons at Starward, and the colder weather means the perfect time for a stout. Brick Lane’s amazing Trilogy of Fear series showcases complex dark malt and a rich texture, allowing our whisky to soak up all the robust flavour from these stoutsoaked barrels. This limited release has been brewing for some time and we couldn’t be happier with the result.”

The Starward Stout Cask is bottled at 52 per cent and the tasting notes describe “rich roasted characteristics perfectly balanced with classic Starward tropical fruit and vanilla. With notes of cacao, stone fruit, and chocolate malt biscuits, it’s delicious sipped neat but even better as a boilermaker”.

To celebrate this whisky and the beauty of the Boilermaker, Starward has partnered with select venues right across Australia, offering Starward Stout Cask boilermakers from 20 May for a limited time. Participating venues can be found here.

Starward Stout Cask will be available exclusively via ballot at Starward.com.au. Ballot registration is now open and the ballot will be drawn from 5 June. Register here.
