Tony Leon’s investment in Steve’s Liquor is a major fillip for the independent retailer, according to director and co-owner Shane Vella.

Leon this week confirmed his investment in Steve’s, telling TheShout he aims to triple the business within the next few years.

Vella told TheShout Leon has been a long time personal friend of one of the other owners, Glen Skelton.

“We’re obviously thrilled to have him on board. When he presented us with the opportunity of him wanting to buy in, we thought ‘why not?’ He can bring our business to another level,” he said.

“It’s almost like he’s gone full circle, he’s played with the multinationals and the chains and now he’s batting for the independents.”

Vella said Leon will take an active role in the business, which will clearly benefit from his business acumen and long proven relationships.

“He’s a director and he is active within the business, talking and negotiating with suppliers,” Vella said.
