A unique speed-mixing cocktail competition was launched on Monday night at The Lincoln in Sydney’s Kings Cross.

Based on a regular London competition, the Australian version of ‘Rematch Beeyatch’, called for 10 bartenders to make 10 cocktails in less than four minutes.

Bartender Zdenek Kastsnek took out first prize with a time of 3:03, while Toby Hilton and Peter Dvoracak came in second and third.

Organised by Tha Colada Club’s Hugh Payten Smith and Nick Van Tiel, ‘Rematch Beeyatch’ is a competition by bartenders for bartenders in that it is not branded nor involve any sponsorship.

“We want to make it about bartending. We want to strip it back to basics and have some fun,” said Payten Smith.

There was a $50 entry fee and first prize was the $500 kitty. Van Tiel said that the event was such a success they would be looking to host the competition regularly.
