A new addition to the Sydney small bar scene, The Barber Shop, will open its doors later this month, offering patrons a place where they can grab a stylish haircut and a classy cocktail at the same time.

The Barber Shop is the brainchild of former Merivale group bar manager, Mike Enright, along with Coca-Cola Amatil’s Julian Train and marketing professional Chris Mills. Located on York St in Sydney’s CBD, the venue is split into two parts, a barber shop in the front, and a speakeasy styled bar hidden up a small flight of stairs.

"The space has been designed to fuse time periods, cultures and styles; a collection of things, versus a self-conscious design statement. Mirrors, art and objects have been sourced from Europe including original style light fittings produced by Davey Lighting, which supplied the Titanic as well as the Royal Navy.

"Visually, all the elements combine to bring about a style that is past and future, familiar yet different, fun and elegant all complemented by soulful blues, soul and funk music," said Enright.

The bar will be serving up English-styled drinks, such as Gin & Tonics served in goblet glasses, and there is even a specially built ‘gin tap’ built into the bar. There will also be a good selection of seasonal cocktails available, made with carefully selected artisan spirits sourced from overseas and Australia.

"The sprucing part of The Barber Shop will have some of the best barbers in town on staff, offering grooming from style cuts to hot towel shaves and of course, all complemented with a quality drink while you’re there or perhaps a scent of The Barber Shop team’s self-made gin cologne. It is no longer just a haircut, it’s an experience," said Enright

Also on board as bar manager is Will Oxenham, who has over 13 years experience working in Australia’s best bars – most recently at the Rockpool Group.
