A small family-owned hotel group is set to take on the liquor retail giants in Sydney with the opening of a large-format independent store in the Northern Beaches area.

Located at the redeveloped President Hotel site in Belrose — now The Belrose Hotel — Bayfield’s will be the largest independent liquor store on the Northern Beaches.

Bayfield Hotel Group operations director, Wayne Bayfield, said consumers will choose a competitive independent operator over one of the ‘big boys’ if the offering is right.

“Our customers tell us they prefer to support an independent operator than see their dollars go to the chains,” he said.

“With us, not only will you find a huge range of products at great prices, but staff who go out of their way to help you — whether it’s taking a couple of cartons of beer to the car or to making the right choice of wine for your dinner party.

“It seems like a simple formula — where you actually care about your customer’s experience — but these days it’s hard to find when it comes to the liquor chains. That’s why we’re different.”

The Belrose Hotel site, which recently completed a $10 million redevelopment, will house more than 120 parking spots. It has also created 50 new job opportunities to be filled when the venue re-opens later this month.

The Bayfield Hotel Group also includes The Newport Arms, The Caringbah, Newport Mirage, Bayfield’s at Caringbah and Belrose and The Dee Why Hotel.
