NSW police launched Operation Simmer today (December 1) to target licensing issues, anti-social behaviour and alcohol-related crime.

Sydney’s Central Metropolitan Region initiative will run over summer from today until February 28, focusing on the CBD and beachside areas.

Commander Central Metropolitan Region assistant commissioner, Catherine Burn, said police from the region will be out in force over the next three months.

“Operation Simmer begins today and will target car hoons, drug and alcohol-related crime and anti-social behaviour throughout summer and at major events across the city including New Year’s Eve celebrations,” Burn said.

“Police will not tolerate anti-social behaviour, whether it be alcohol, drug or traffic-related.”

Operation Simmer follows Operation Simm — conducted over the weekend as a pre-curser and focused on the Kings Cross area, with 20 people arrested.
