Newtown’s Coopers Hotel recently hosted a craft beer and fine dining evening to showcase its fervour for food and the potential for matching it with quality beers.

Lion’s James Squire came to the party with a selection of its range and Coopers Hotel head chef Ashley O’Sullivan and sous chefs Henrik Ahlen and Alex Webb orchestrated a series of courses to complement the beverages.

“With so much pressure on the industry, we often forget about bringing the ‘fun’ aspect to our business,” Coopers Hotel manager, Adam Kilkeary told TheShout.

“The James Squire dinner was an opportunity to celebrate great craft beers from a market leader with excellent food in a relaxed environment.

“We aimed to engage the community by bringing the brewery to them while showcasing our products and service with a little bit of ‘wow’ factor, so our guests understand why we are so passionate.”

Malt Shovel brewmaster Chuck Hahn told TheShout the Coopers Hotel is "a great example of the variety and sophistication of food on offer in pubs these days".

"We had a great menu to match our beers to. There was a good crowd on the night and I think we really opened some eyes to how well beer and food go together," he said.
