Entries are now open for one of Australia’s oldest wine shows with the Sydney Royal set to run in July.

With the Easter Show done and dusted for another year, the Royal Agricultural Society of NSW has turned its attention to the 2025 Sydney Royal Wine Show, now in its 199th year.

Winemakers can enter products across 59 classes, ranging from chardonnay and red blends to sparkling, muscat and non-alcoholic wines.

Each of the 2000 expected wines entered will be assessed by a panel of judges, including international judge and Master of Wine, Jeannie Cho Lee, and given a score resulting in gold, silver, bronze awards or a trophy win.

Chair of Judges and De Iuliis Wines owner, Mike De Iuliis, said it is a great way to gain industry feedback for winemakers.

“This year, at the Sydney Royal Wine Show, we are proud to present a world-class panel of judges assembled from across the country,” he said.

“As this prestigious event approaches the remarkable milestone of its 200th anniversary, it is a true privilege to be part of such an exceptional wine show.”

Entries close in mid-May and judging will take place at the end of July with results being announced in August.

Last year’s Best Wine of Show was won by the 2023 Bream Creek Vineyard Pinot Noir, which was the youngest red to win the title for more than 24 years and the first pinot noir since 2015.

Across the 52 classes judged last year, the 2024 and 2023 chardonnay class claimed the highest medal count with 118 medals awarded, nine of which were gold medals.

Other award winners included Calabria Saint Petri 2022 Shiraz Carignan, Yalumba Sanctum Cabernet Sauvignon 2021 and Tasmania’s House of Arras Grand Vintage 2015 crowned as Best Sparkling White for the second-year running.

The Sydney Royal Wine Show will celebrate 200 years next year, with wine first judged by the society in 1826.
