A Tasmanian Liberal Government would invest $250,000 to develop a beer tourism plan for the state, Opposition Leader Will Hodgman has announced.
In a media conference at Bushy Park hop fields this morning – attended by representatives of the Brewers' Association, Cascade Brewery and Hop Products Australia – Hodgman said the funding would be used to:
- promote and grow local beer festivals
- develop a guide to local breweries and the experiences they offer, including tours, tastings and sales; and
- establish a website promoting the brewing industry, from the farm to bar.
The plan will also be supported by the Brewers' Association, which will contribute $100,000 to its implementation. [continues below]

Brewers' Association CEO Denita Wawn told TheShout the policy recognises the economic contribution of beer as an agricultural industry that employs more than 200 people at ten breweries in all regions of Tasmania.
She said the policy opportunity was offered to both parties but only the Hodgman Opposition showed any interest in adopting it.
Tasmania goes to the polls this Saturday.
