Tasmania’s Tamar Valley wine region has launched an interactive new website featuring a downloadable map that allows users to tailor their tour of the region.

The Tamar Valley Wine Route website enables users to narrow their search by distance, opening hours and wine variety, and then goes on to provide information about each winery along the route including location, opening hours, amenities and history.

The site supports mobile web browsing and also has associated Twitter and Facebook pages, with plans to add further interactive features to enhance the website’s usability on the road, including the development of a smart-phone app and other mobile-friendly services.

Tamar Valley Wine Route Inc. project manager, Fiona Weller, said the website provides greater accessibility to all visitors to the region.

“This website is just the first step in providing visitors a way to unlock the secrets of the Tamar Valley and assist them to enjoy their time here more, hopefully becoming return visitors,” said Weller.

“It was really important that our guests, whether from around the corner or another continent, appreciate the Tamar Valley for the world-class travel destination that it is. It is great that this website enables us to present a really exciting wine experience to future visitors anywhere in the world.”

Thirty-two wineries with cellar door facilities are included along the Tamar Valley Wine Route, which was initially established in 1992.
