The Federal Government has announced increased tax concessions for small business, to coincide with the introduction of the carbon tax on July 1.

Instant tax write-offs allowing 100 per cent of purchase costs to be claimed have increased from $1000 to $6500.

The changes are part of small business concessions, and are available for businesses with aggregated turnover below $2 million.

As the cost of production increases, the impact of the carbon tax is likely to have an extended effect on high energy users, faced with the option of absorbing the higher bills or negotiating better deals with the power suppliers.
