NSW licensed premises should be aware that people posing as Telstra workers have recently attempted to access a number of licensed premises across the state.

In all occurrences, the bogus Telstra worker has purported to check lines throughout the venue but eventually made his way to the TAB or cashier’s box. Sums of cash between $1000 and $1500 have been removed before leaving the premises.

In the latest attempt, the imposter was refused entry to a club in Sydney’s south, where there had been no request for work.

Staff had also noticed his documentation showed incorrect details for the club’s general manager. Enquiries were made and Telstra confirmed they had no record of the supposed employee. The offender was later seen leaving the area in a vehicle devoid of Telstra branding.

A number of venues in the Cumberland and Central Coast areas have reported incidents of an identical nature occurring over the past three weeks.

Police reports have been lodged for all incidents identified but no arrests have been made.
