The Waugh Group purchased Sydney venue The Collaroy three years ago. Previously known as The Surf Rock Hotel, it was an outdated space in desperate need of a good facelift.
The Waugh group’s main aim in acquiring the venue was to give a sophisticated new start to the landmark building by utilising its space and ideal beachside positioning.
The renovations, new fit outs and reinvented interiors were all contributing factors, which enabled the Waugh Group’s initial vision to actualise.
The Collaroy now has an exciting look and feel which has led the venue to find a new purpose within the community.
“We knocked through four huge terraces that make up the new Collaroy, which really took in the far northern space and opened it up to the amazing coastal views,” explains the hotel licensee Alistair Flower.
“The upstairs area is the easiest way to get perspective on just how much we’ve transformed The Collaroy.
“From the street, we were careful and conscious to maintain the iconic heritage features, while our new logo and name give a nod to the Collaroy steamship that ran aground on the reef right out the front of the hotel back in 1881.”
The entire interior fit out and styling was undertaken by the H.G.W Design group.
“They were fantastic to work with and definitely fulfilled our design brief – they really helped our vision come to fruition,” Flower explains.
It took at least six months of construction and design to achieve the current contemporary, coastal look that the Collaroy is now famous for. A Strong focus for the team always remained on turning the dated interiors into a comfortable and aesthetically pleasing venue that the whole community can enjoy.
There are three main areas in the venue that makes The Collaroy such a diverse venue, with something to offer everyone: The Downstairs Sports Bar, Upstairs Dining Area and The Pelican Pavilion.
