A NSW court heard how a fight that erupted over a bag of pistachio nuts outside a Sydney hotel resulted in the killing of a 25 year-old man, The Sydney Morning Herald reported. Damien Hopper allegedly attacked Hunuki Tamapeau outside the Mortdale Hotel after being refused a pistachio by an acquaintance of both men. Hopper has pleaded not guilty, with his barrister arguing Tamapeau had taunted Hopper repeatedly and died after slipping backward and striking his head on the road. The case continues.

Two females aged 16 and 19 were charged with assault and affray after punching a police officer last Thursday night. The officer was attacked by the females while arresting two male youths who had been involved in a fight at the rear of a nightclub in Fitzwilliam Street, Parramatta. The two male youths have been released without charge. The two females appeared on Friday at Parramatta Children’s Court and Parramatta Local Court, respectively. The officer sustained bruising to his face and head and had a filling knocked out during the assault.

Two males, one believed to be armed with a knife, entered a hotel on Albemarle Street, Newtown, on Tuesday night and demanded money from bar attendants. The males then forced the attendants into a nearby room before fleeing with a sum of cash and several personal items. They are described as having olive complexions and wearing dark tracksuits at the time. Police later found a knife at the premises that has been seized for forensic examination.
