West Australian gin distillers The West Winds have launched a new series of gins that are aged in barrels.
The first barrel aged expression to be released is the Maidenii Voyage. The name plays on the concept of “maiden voyage” and has been created in tandem with Australian Vermouth producers, Maidenii, using their Sweet Vermouth. An Australian-style vermouth it features wormwood, strawberry gum, river mint and wattle seed.
“In true Australian Negroni style the vermouth barrels truly enhance and complement our first batch of Barrel Expedition gin,” says The West Winds in a statement.
The West Winds plans to expand the collection over the next few years, working with a variety of barrels from suppliers of wine, whisky and more over the next couple of years.
