With restrictions now more relaxed in Victoria, whisky drinkers in the state now have a festival to look forward to.

The Whisky Show: Breakout Edition will feature 40 different whiskies, including some Australian exclusives. It will be split into two sessions, hosted on Saturday December 11 at Batman’s Hill on Collins.

There are only 150 tickets available for each session, with the Whisky Show’s Oliver Maruda telling The Shout that tickets are already selling fast.

David Ligoff, the Founder of the Whisky Show and Director of Alchemist Events said this event came: “following the recent success of the Breakout Whisky Show held in Sydney last weekend, where we trialled a more intimate and boutique format.

“This proved that whisky lovers prefer enjoying whiskies in a more relaxed atmosphere. We’ll be bringing this new format to the Melbourne show too and can’t wait to hear what fellow Melbournites say.”

For Ligoff, the in-person festival is an exciting prospect after 2020’s virtual event.

He said: “We’ve been coming to Melbourne for 10 years now, and with last year switching to virtual whisky shows due to lockdowns, we’re thrilled to be returning to one of our favourite cities, one that loves their whisky, to share some new and exciting drams with you all.”

And there’s nothing like the sense of conviviality and community that comes with in-person events, as Ligoff continued: “My favourite part of last week’s show was witnessing the sense of community amongst show attendees.

“Strangers became friends over the course of the session, as they compared ratings of their whiskies in the Show app, as well as notes on what to try next.”

Brands that have already been confirmed for the Melbourne event include Bunnahabhain, Deanston, Benriach, The Remnant Whisky Company, Westward Whiskey, Rolling Cask and Bakery Hill (the oldest Australian whisky distillery on the mainland), with more still to be announced.
