Tasmanian winery Tolpuddle Vineyard has unveiled a brand-new Tasting Room, situated at the Coal River Valley property in Richmond.
Opening to the public today, the Tolpuddle Vineyard Tasting Room sits within the vineyard just outside of Hobart, creating a space for the winery to connect with consumers directly.
Martin Shaw, who co-owns Tolpuddle Vineyard with Michael Hill-Smith, said: “When we first bought the vineyard in 2011, we envisioned a day when we would build a Tasting Room in the midst of the vines to showcase our wines from this special site. We love this vineyard and now have a tasting space so visitors can experience Tolpuddle Vineyard firsthand.”
Designed and constructed by Hobart-based Tanner Architects and local builder Cordwell Built, the new Tasting Room features natural materials such as timber salvaged from the West Coast of Tasmania and exposed brick.
With floor-to-ceiling windows, visitors will have views across the vineyard while being able to taste a flight of four wines, including a current release Tolpuddle Vineyard Chardonnay and Pinot Noir alongside more mature back vintages.
Hill-Smith told The Shout: “Tolpuddle is all about this unique vineyard site – so sitting in this wonderful room surrounded by vines tasting old and young Tolpuddle Vineyard Chardonnay and Pinot Noir is an outstanding experience. See it, taste it, live it.
“Tolpuddle Vineyard has attitude, so does the Tasting Room. We love this building, subtle and stylish with a strong sense of place.”
A small food menu will also be available with a focus on local ingredients, including goats curd from Tongola Cheese, baked Tasmanian scallops, duck and prune terrine, and caviar and crumpets.
The Tasting Room will be managed by Pip Anderson (ex-Mona), alongside Sam Bray (ex-Mona and Manky Sally’s) who will manage exclusive wine-focused events to entertain 15-30 guests.
Tolpuddle Vineyard Tasting Room swings its doors open today, and will be open by appointment Friday – Monday 11am to 5pm, with tastings on offer at $55 per person.
