CBS Studios is suing the owners of a bar in the US city of Rockford for improperly using the ‘Cheers’ brand name and for copying the distinctive Cheers logo.

Cheers of Rockford has been trading since 1993 — the same year the Emmy Award-winning show about a Boston bar and the layabouts who frequent it ended a successful 11-year run, the Rockford Registar Star reported.

CBS studios is demanding the owners remove a logo that is allegedly identical to its trademark but which is annotated with words “of Rockford”. The studio is also seeking unspecified monetary damages.

The Cheers logo was inspired by the Bull & Finch Pub of the same name in Boston’s Beacon Street. The only other venue licensed to bear the brand name is a replica of the TV set in the Boston suburb of Faneuil Hall.
