The Royal Mail Hotel in Victoria's Southern Grampians took home the world's best hotel wine list trophy at this week's World of Fine Wine Awards.

Beating hotels and restaurants from all around the world the Royal Mail Hotel also won Best Overall in Region (Australasia) and Best Dessert & Fortified Wine List.

The Royal Mail Hotel Head Sommelier Deniz Hardman says the many international accolades the wine list has received are "a testament to the owner's dedications and collecting prowess".

The collection has been steadily built over the past 40 years by Royal Mail Hotel owner Allan Myers and features wines from every region in the world, including Australia's leading collection of Bordeaux and Burgundy.

The collection is valued currently at $2.3 million and more than 2,500 international wines appear on the hotel's wine list.
