The Liquor Stores Association of Western Australia (LSAWA) has confirmed bottle shops in at-risk areas have conformed to a request to restrict the sale of liquor as millions of dollars are funnelled to welfare recipients as part of the Federal Government’s economic stimulus package.

“In most areas licensees have consulted with police in identifying strategies to overcome the supply to ‘at risk’ drinkers,” said LSAWA executive director, Lindsay James. “Each town has different restrictions [and] some licensees have their own restrictions additional to the below.”

Derby
Trading hours for take-away liquor sale are 3:00pm to 8:00pm until Dec 27 and restrictions apply banning the sale of cask wine and bottle spirits apply from 6:00pm. Beer and other packaged alcohol products will only be sold in quantities of up to six units and cask wines have been taken off display.
 
Wyndham
Trading hours for take-away liquor sale are 11:00am to 8:00pm and the sale of cask wine has been banned. Customers can purchase no more than two cartons of beer per day and only half cartons after 6:00pm.

Halls Creek
Trading hours for take-away liquor sale are 2:00pm to 6:00pm and the sale of cask wine, RTD 12-packs and spirits has been banned. Customers can purchase no more than one cask of beer per day and only half cartons are available after 6:00pm.
 
South Hedland
Trading hours for take-away liquor sale are 11:00pm to 7:00pm and the sale of fortified wine has been banned. Customers can purchase no more than two casks ‘per group’ and only between 2:00pm and 6:00pm. Restrictions on overall quantities and/or dollar spend on alcohol also apply.

Kununurra
Trading hours for take-away liquor sale are 12:00pm to 8:00pm commencing today (December 10) through to December 22. The sale of bottled wine, spirits full-strength beer and RTDs is banned prior to 6:00pm. After 6:00pm customers may purchase a maximum of one bottle of spirit, one bottle of wine, 12 RTDs or one case of bear. The sale of cask wine is banned at all hours throughout this period.
