The WA hospitality industry was recognised at the Lion Nathan Gala Ball and 2008 Australian Hotels Association (AHA) AON Hotel Awards for Excellence on Wednesday night (November 12).

Held at the Burswood Entertainment Complex, more than 1000 people celebrated the finalists and winners across 45 categories including service, presentation, responsible service of alcohol, innovation, redevelopment, tourism and accommodation.

In a first for WA, the event was powered by 100 per cent renewable energy sources supplied by Synergy NaturalPower.

The AHA De Bortoli/6PR Perth’s pub of the year award went to The Gate Bar and Bistro in Success, while the regional hotel/ tavern of the year award was scooped by Donnybrook’s Red Rabbit Inn.

Geraldton’s Robert Ramage received the hospitality industry lifetime achievement award.

AHA (WA) chief executive, Bradley Woods, said the AHA Aon Hotel Awards for Excellence reflect the increasing standards within the industry.

“This year we received more than 300 submissions across the 45 categories and the standard across the industry has never been as high,” he said. “Hoteliers continue to rise to the occasion by setting exceptional standards of excellence for the WA hotel industry each year.”
