Chris Watters has resigned as CEO of DrinkWise Australia after less than a year in the job.

He has cited family reasons for the unexpected departure.

Contacted TheShout for comment, DrinkWise Australia chair, Trish Worth, issued this statement: "Chris Watters has resigned from DrinkWise for personal family reasons and is returning to Queensland to be with his family who are located there.”

“DrinkWise is taking action to ensure a well qualified replacement is found so that the good work already done can be continued. All at DrinkWise wish Chris well for the future.”

Watters, a former Brisbane barrister and commissioner for liquor licensing in Queensland, was appointed CEO in early November last year and began his tenure on December 1, 2008.

He replaced outgoing CEO Dr Mike MacAvoy.

It is not yet known when a successor to Watters will be appointed.
