Westward Whiskey has launched a barrel-strength version of its original American Single Malt – Westward Cask Strength is the fourth addition to the core range available in Australia.

The whiskey has already earned a double gold award at the San Francisco Spirits Competition and Founder and CEO of Westward Whiskey, Thomas Mooney, said it was very important moment for Westward in Australia, to be launching the Cask Strength expression.

“There is something about enjoying whiskey straight out of the barrel, and not just because it’s inherently cool, but anyone who enjoys whiskey will be drawn to its most bold, flavourful, viscous expression, because it is all whiskey,” Mooney said at a recent launch event.

“It’s whiskey flavoured whiskey. As whiskey is maturing we are constantly going through the warehouse and testing the whiskey as it develops, and that’s the one constant – that we are tasting things at an ABV that just makes everything more flavourful and more intense.

“So we thought it was important to make that experience available to people who love our brand, but who can’t come to visit the barrels. [This whiskey] is the most flavourful, robust, uncut version of what Westward could be.”

He added: “We first introduced Cask Strength at the demand of our local Oregon fans, and since then there has been huge interest from whiskey lovers both locally and globally for quality high proof options, so we’re looking forward to having Australians be able to try our Cask Strength.”

The tasting notes for the Westward American Single Malt Whiskey Cask Strength state “toasted almond, graham cracker, and black pepper aromas. Flavours include sesame, tobacco leaf and cacao, with a honeyed, deep fiery malt finish.

The Westward American Single Malt Whiskey Cask Strength is available now through Amber Beverages with a $199 RRP.
