The Perfume Studio, a boutique perfume house in the Scottish highlands, has created a nosing kit to help whisky enthusiasts tutor their noses against 24 reference aroma chemicals.
The Scotch Whisky Aroma Nosing Kit includes a 40-page booklet that introduces readers to reference whisky aromas, discusses the nosing and tasting process, and provides detailed explanations of nosing terminologies and vocabulary.
The Perfume Studio proprietor, George Dodds, said he created the kit to help educate the marketplace.
“When I came to live in Scotland in 1994 I looked forward to becoming a connoisseur of the finest single malt whiskies. But I was amazed at the primitive way in which beginners were introduced to the art and science of appreciating fine malts,” said Dodds, who has worked as a perfume scientist for 40 years.
“Being used to the systematic training of the sense of smell as found in perfumery, I was astonished at the lack of such methods in the whiskey world.”
