Swinging Bridge winemaker, Tom Ward, in partnership with Nick Bacon of distributor Vines to Venues, has purchased The Union Bank, the renowned wine bar in Orange, NSW.

The Union Bank is one of the central west’s most recognised venues, established in 2006 in the historic Union Bank building on the corner of Sale and Byng Streets in the heart of Orange.

The bar will undergo minor upgrades under Ward and Bacon’s ownership, with most of the changes to the wine list and menu.

“We are very supportive of the local regional wines and these will play a key role in the business,” Ward said.

“On top of this, we will showcase various other wines that support and complement the regional wines on offer.”

The new menu will comprise contemporary Australian fare, with a focus on local, seasonal produce.

“With the intimate bar area, with long communal table and wood fire inside, and the market umbrella covered courtyard, it is a retreat for professionals and those just looking for something special in the way of a glass of wine and a meal,” Ward said.

“We are busy planning some exciting new events over the coming 12 months.  Orange Wine Week is kicking off in October, so we’re looking forward to showing guests the changes.”

Co-owner, Nick Bacon said Orange is currently one of Australia’s most exciting regions for cool climate wines.

“Having extensive experience in wine distribution, wine buying and hospitality, I have seen the consistent improvement in the quality of Orange wines,” he said.

“The region is attracting new winemakers that will continue to build excitement. These are the regions that people are talking about, and the wines consumers are looking to try.”
