Australian wine writer Huon Hooke has been bestowed with the 2007 Australian Wine Communicator Award (AWCA).

The award was presented to Hooke by the Wine Press Club of New South Wales (WPC) at the Macquarie Bank Sydney Wine Show Trophy Winners Lunch held at Star City earlier this month before an audience of his peers and colleagues.

Previous award winners include Victorian based wine writer, Campbell Mattinson, who also won in 2004 and 2006, and industry stalwart James Halliday, who won in 2005.

Hooke is the regular wine correspondent for the Sydney Morning Herald where his weekly column has appeared since 1987. He is the Contributing Editor of Gourmet Traveller’s Wine Magazine and has authored many books, including the Penguin Good Australian Wine Guide (co-authored) from 1994 to the present, Words on Wine, an anthology of 40 stimulating essays on wine and Max Schubert, Winemaker, a biography of the founder and creator of Penfold’s Grange.
