Woolworths has launched its latest private label spirit, Finnlaigh Irish Whiskey, named after one of the legendary High Kings of Ireland, Aedh Finnlaigh, who reigned from 861 to 876 AD.

Finnlaigh was known as a spirited man, a passionate ruler and a formidable soldier.

Finnlaigh Irish Whiskey is made by Ireland’s only independent whiskey distiller; the award-winning Cooley Distillery, close to the medieval village of Carlingford.

This twice-distilled, premium quality Irish Whiskey is aged for four years and has a malt content of 25 percent.

Finnlaigh is distilled and bottled in Ireland and is presented in a silver gift box.

It has an ABV of 40 percent and master blender, Noel Sweeney, describes Finnlaigh as having sweet caramel, vanilla and toasty wood aromas with a flavour that begins soft and silky-smooth, developing into sweet, golden raisin, caramel and peppery spice notes.

It will be available through Dan Murphy’s, BWS and Woolworths Liquor for between $36 and $38.
