Consumers buying alcohol from across Woolworths’ liquor store offerings will soon be able to earn Everyday Rewards points.

The scheme allows customers to link their customer loyalty cards to Qantas’ Frequent Flyer Scheme.

Launched last week, the program gives Woolworths a vehicle to hit back against the Wesfarmers’ Coles Group, which has Flybuys running its customer loyalty program. The two supermarket giants are widely expected to embark on an advertising and marketing war in the coming months.

Woolworths customers who link their Everyday Rewards and Qantas Frequent Flyer accounts will earn one Qantas Frequent Flyer point for every dollar spent above $30 in one transaction, when they present their Everyday Rewards card.

The offer was made available to Woolworths Supermarket and Liquor customers from June 22 – including Safeway Liquor customers in Victoria – and BIG W customers will be able to take advantage from July 16.

A Woolworths’ spokesperson said plans were underway to extend the offering to BWS in coming months with Dan Murphy’s also likely to be included in the initiative later this year.

“This partnership with Qantas Frequent Flyer will be enormously appealing to our customers because we are not asking them to do anything more than their regular shopping to start earning rewards,” Woolworths Customer Engagement GM Richard Umbers said.

“Their points will quickly add up from their weekly shop at Woolworths Supermarkets, their regular trips to BIG W, BWS, participating Caltex Woolworths co-branded fuel outlets and their visits to Dick Smith.”
